Amherst shops at local book sale

Amherst bookworms who want to stock up on their summer reading materials are invited to save the date for a local event that will help them fill their shelves.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is preparing for its annual Book Sale fundraiser in late May. Like last year, it is scheduled for 425 Essjay Road in Williamsville, and donations from the public will be welcome.

The organizers will be accepting contributions of gently used Books, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, vinyl LPs, puzzles, games, audiobooks, and themed items. They ask for no magazines, Readers Digest condensed Books with regular size Print, encyclopedias, computer Books, or VHS tapes. Items will be collected from April 7 until May 9 at the sale site.

Amherst businesses, as well as members of the public who would like to support this combination of a fundraiser and literacy builder, have options starting at $25. They all have a literature-based theme, and the generosity of the supporters will be recognized in the decor materials prepared for display during the book sale. Poster printing is a common way to recognize contributors at this sort of event.

The AAUW Buffalo Branch’s annual Book Sale is scheduled for May 27 to 31. Its web listing provides complete details for those interested in sponsoring the activity, donating, or serving as a volunteer.
