Restaurant makes time for special needs kids

A Secaucus restaurant has pledged to give a dinner every week to a family with a child who has special needs.

Outback Steakhouse has formed an alliance with a local committee that focuses on special needs. The building is situated on Harmon Meadow Boulevard at 455.

The program in question is based on the idea of rewarding people with special needs on the basis of merit. Their achievements will be recognized in a positive manner according to one of the owners of the restaurant, Alex Pappas, who may want to get additional publicity for the project with the help of poster printing in Secaucus.

Michael Gonnelli, the Mayor of Secaucus, has said that he hopes other restaurants will participate in the initiative. He wants lots of families to benefit from the goodwill of businesses without lines being too long.

Mayor Gonnelli has said:

“If we do a family a week for a full year we can reach 52 families but we have about 400 special needs families in Secaucus so if more restaurants do it maybe we can get a family dinner for every family at least one week out of the year.”

Discussions have been held with the view of extending the policy to give parents of children with special needs nights out without their offspring. There has also been talk about meeting some of the requirements of adults personally affected by special needs.
