Red Bank venue hosts cultural events

The T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center, located in Red Bank, will be presenting several special events this month.

Flyer printing is often used by such centers to promote their unique talks and exhibits.

The first will be presented by Gilda Rogers, the executive director of the cultural center, who will highlight her recent trip to South Africa that included a visit to the Apartheid Museum in Soweto to the Cradle of Humankind. The Museum helps visitors learn all about the origin of humans in Africa and about their ancestors. She will talk about her own personal journey, and will then be joined by Stephan Harris, a vibraphonist. This event will be from 7:00 to 8:30 pm on Friday, March 15 and is free to the general public.

A new exhibit will be opening at the center entitled “Shaping Black Identity & Black Influence on Mass Media”, with Caroline Hunter Williams as the guest speaker for the opening. She played a major role in the elimination of South Africa’s apartheid, and will tell this amazing story at the center on Saturday, March 23 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Dr. Carla Peterson, a University of Maryland professor, will join Gilda Rogers for an engaging talk about the Gilded Age in New York City, as well as the role of her grandfather during that time in the media. This will be on Saturday, March 30 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
