These awards recognize the exceptional implementation of the schools of the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program. This is an initiative implemented across the state that aligns with the efforts of the entire country to improve safety of cyclists and pedestrians for schoolchildren.

Dr. Jared Rumage, Superintendent of Schools, said that the Gold Award is evidence of the core values of the district. He added that the Safe Routes to School program has played an important role in ensuring that students are safe and secure as they travel to and from school and supports the commitment of the district to learning every day as:
“a safe journey ensures students arrive ready to learn.”
Vice Principal of Red Bank Primary School, Christina Vlahos, said that the SRTS program has enabled students to stay active and safe they learn how enjoyable it is to bike and walk to school. She added that often Stormy, the school mascot, joins in the fun and hands out stickers that students proudly wear all day.
