What's Happening in Red Bank, NJ…

A new Labor and Literacy Lab is now open in the Red Bank Public Library.

This lab has free resources for those who are looking for jobs and for all those looking to prove their computer skills. The Lab is free and available to everyone in the community. Poster printing is often used to inform the community of such new services.

It comes thanks to an amount of just over $100,000 made available through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to the New Jersey State Library. The funds were used to convert the Eisner Room into a lifelong learning classroom with a smartboard and 14 computers, and they enabled the hiring of two professional instructors.

Emily Miller is the Labor Instructor and helps people with their job search, including such issues as creating a résumé, conducting mock interviews, expanding their LinkedIn page, and preparing for their GED tests. Victoria Rubio is the Digital Literacy Instructor and helps with all areas of computer literacy, such as keyboarding, programming, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

The lab is also currently holding a boot camp on Internet and Computing Core Certification. It is for beginners in the digital world and covers the basics of computing and other skills needed for digital literacy. The boot camp began on May 23 and continues through July 21.
