New projects approved in Red Bank

The Zoning Board of Red Bank has approved two upcoming projects in town.

Park Valley Development (PVD) plans to build a mixed-use project on Monmouth Street at the corner of Pearl Street. The site is diagonally across from the Count Basie Theater. Banner printing used at such sites can keep the community informed about such projects and their progress.

The plan is to have 1,322 square feet of retail space on the first floor, with 32 apartments above that. There will be 50 parking spaces provided for the project. Former Mayor Ed McKenna, legal counsel for PVD, said that the number of affordable housing units has increased from the original plan from one to five. McKenna added that the development is a three-minute walk to the bus and train station and this makes it eligible for transit village status.

The other project is an increase of the space on the first floor of the Parker Family Health Center on Shrewsbury Avenue. The increase of 1,328 square feet will mean the loss of three parking spaces but McKenna, also representing the Parker Center, said that a deal was able to be negotiated with Riverstreet Commons next to the property to secure four spaces. McKenna added that the Center had applied for a grant, which would greatly offset the costs for this expansion.
