Captain Mike Frazee, born and raised in Red Bank, will be the next police chief for the borough. He will be succeeding Darren McConnell who is expected to retire within the month.

Frazee joined the Red Bank police department in 1994 as a dispatcher and two years later became a patrol officer. After working in the patrol and detective units, he was promoted to lieutenant in 2014 and then promoted to captain in July 2017.

Councilwoman Kate Triggiano said that finding the next police chief was a straightforward process. An external search was not conducted as Triggiano, who has served as police commissioner, said that Frazee was extremely qualified, and the council knew that he would be ideal for the position.

Triggiano went on to say that he has all the skills that are respected in the department. She said he has de-escalation skills, is enthusiastic about the community, and he wants to ensure that the police department remains approachable.

Freeze expressed his excitement and honor about being appointed to the position which manages a police department of 39 people. He said that he has worked for five different police chiefs who, although different from each other, were excellent leaders and did well in their positions. He added that he hopes he can be as successful as all of them.
