The T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center in Red Bank and the United Methodist Church of Red Bank will be offering a free art program for children in February.
Such programs are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing.
Called “Kids Create for Change,” the program will consist of free workshops for children between the ages of 8 and 11 on three Saturdays in February. Children from diverse backgrounds who attend will be guided to use artistic expression to find their voice and enable them to connect with each other to give back to their community.
Sessions will run from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm and will include readings from picture Books, creative projects, discussions, icebreaker games, and lunch. Guest speakers will also visit the workshops and will feature Diana Lee Santamaria and Barbara DiLorenzo, both authors, who will make a presentation and will talk about the Culture Connection Theatre.
Applications for the program are being accepted until this Friday, January 6.
Sessions will be held on February 4, 11, and 18 at the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center on East Bergen Place. A celebration event will take place on Friday, March 24 at 6:00 pm at which each child will receive a keepsake book of the stories and artwork of the group. There will also be a book reading of “Ashti Meets Birdman Al” by Carmen Rubin.
