Stevensville runs for the holidays

The first weekend in December will be a busy one for runners here in Stevensville.

Kent Island Elementary School will be running its fifth One-mile Candy Cane Dash and a timed Jingle Bell 5K and 10K.

The course for all three races will begin at the Kent Island Elementary School, 110 Elementary Way. The longer runs will go on the Cross Island Trail, which is paved, while the Candy Cane Dash will be a loop that will go as far as Bayside Elementary School.

Early bird registrants for the Candy Cane Dash are guaranteed T-Shirts sporting the event’s graphic design. Swag Bags with race day surprises, coupons, and Promotional Products from local sponsors will go to 5K and 10K registrants.

Funds will help with resurfacing the playground from the existing tire mulch to safer rubber padding.

Prizes will be awarded to top finishers in each age division. Runners are encouraged to race in their holiday best to be entered in the “Best Holiday Dressed” contest.

Challenge Island will be available for children to be entertained while the parents are out on the course, although this activity requires reservations. After the race, Santa will be available for visits, kids can get their faces painted, and snacks will be free.

The Candy Cane Dash will begin at 8:00 am, and the 5K and 10K will begin at 8:30 am on Saturday, December 7.
