Stevensville goes to Chester Gras

Peoples Bank will be hosting its 7th Kent County-style Cajun Mardi Gras later in February.

A Mardi Gras parade, beads and all, will proceed down High Street starting at 11:30 pm. Heated tents in front of the bank on Spring Avenue will open at noon. They will feature live music, kids’ activities like face painting, games and food. Mardi Gras-type food will include the all-favorite gumbo, red beans, grits, shrimp followed by a piece of King Cake. The tents will remain open until 3:00 pm. Everyone here in Stevensville will want to wear their best Mardi Gras finery and enter the costume contest.

Philip Dutton and the Alligators will be bringing Louisiana music – including Cajun, funk, trad jazz, mardi gras Indian, swamp rock and zydeco – to the party.

A silent auction will have items such as Gift Certificates, services, and gifts donated by local merchants, businesses, and organizations.

A photo booth will be on site so everyone can get something to remember the occasion. Families often add pictures from events such as this to family Calendars made by local Stationery printers.

Chester Gras will be a fund raising event to benefit Kent County Food Pantry’s five Backpack Programs. These programs provide weekend food for students in need that attend Kent County Schools.

Chester Gras 2020 will take place February 22 from 11:30 am until 3:00 pm in Chestertown.
