Stevensville anglers will be heading for Rock Hall in June to enter the upcoming 2019 Rockfish Tournament. Hosted by the Maryland Watermen’s Association, the two-day event will offer fun in the sun and cash prizes.
Cash prizes will go to the team that catches the largest fish using hook and line. One prize will be awarded each day. A cash prize will go for the most overall accumulated weight caught over the two-day period. The daily first place prize will be half of the daily gate; second prize half the amount of the first prize and on down until the last place will receive $100. The overall winner will receive an extra $600.
Admission for private boats will be $150 each day and $250 for charter. Only 200 boats will be allowed to fish each day.
Two rockfish will be tagged and released the day before the event. Each fish is worth $20,000 if caught during the tournament.
An awards ceremony will take place at the close of the second day.
Winners at events such as this usually have their pictures taken with their prize catch. These photos are often then taken to local Print shops for poster printing or to Stationery printers to be made into family Calendars.
The 24th Annual Rockfish Tournament will be June 7th and 8th at the Rock Hall Bulkhead at the Boat Marina. Fishing will begin at 8:00 am and end at 4:00 pm on both days.
