Dickens festivities and float parade await in December

Stevensville residents may have to travel just a little way to experience a holiday parade and a festival.

A Christmas Parade will have floats, motorcycles, vehicles, marching bands, fire companies, drill teams and Boy and Girl Scout troops in a couple of weeks’ time. Dance, twirling, dril,l and gymnastic groups will be getting their banner printing done soon to have displays ready to introduce themselves to the crowds. This year’s theme will be ‘The Greatest Gift of All’. Floats will be judged. The parade will sponsor Toys for Tots this year.

The parade route will be a loop starting at Queen Anne’s County High School and going down Ruthsburg Road. At Banjo Lane it will take a right and on Turpins Lane it will turn left. At Commerce Street it will turn left again and proceed down to Kidwell Avenue, where it will turn right and return to the high school.

‘Dickens of a Christmas’ will transform Historic Downtown Chestertown into Victorian-era London. Street theater, carriage rides, high tea, family entertainment, children’s crafts and games are only a few of the activities in the works. There will be a ‘Tiny Tim’s Christmas’ stage production, authentic drinks and food, and a ‘Run Like the Dickens’ 5K. Stevensville runners will receive T-Shirts touting the event’s graphic design.

The Parade will be Friday, December 7 starting at 6:30 pm in Centreville.

Dickens of a Christmas will start on the same day at 5:00 pm, and run through December 9 until 4:00 pm in Chestertown.
