The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in Catonsville has set up a new center called iCyberCenter@bwtech.
The new cybersecurity facility, which is located in the university's research park, is a partnership between the institution and the Maryland Department of Commerce. It is expected that the center will encourage international companies to locate some of their operations in Maryland, and that the initiative will create as many as 100 new jobs in the future.
The center offers an executive training session, plus an incubator program that lasts for a full year. The program is aimed at companies in the United Kingdom and other nations that are allies of the United States. Mike Gill, Maryland's secretary of commerce, said the U.S. knows its cyber industry is strong, and now he and others hope to share that information with the rest of the world. The center's main purpose is to assist those international companies that work in the cyber area to find business opportunities in the United States, and specifically Maryland.
Ellen Hemmerly, the executive director of bwtech, said the organization started to realize there was a lot of interest in what they were doing, but there did not seem to be anybody in Maryland targeting those companies in particular, or helping them understand and participate in the market in the United States. The center has stepped into that niche.
Efforts like this can benefit if organizations work with brochure printers to create detailed Brochures explaining their programs.
