New building unveiled at local college

The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) in Catonsville opened a new building recently.

Officials, including the president of the college, Sandra Kurtinitis, dedicated the new Mathematics and Science Hall on September 24 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The building comprises 90,000 square feet, and is designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind. The Hall is now home to the school's science and math departments, as well as other classes that have outgrown their spaces in other buildings. It was constructed by combining the library, which has been vacant for about six years, with a spacious addition. The library has since moved to another building.

The old science and math building was one of the first built on the campus, but it is still sound and will be renovated so another department can use it.

The new hall has upgraded equipment and 50% more labs, to help prepare students who transfer into four-year universities for the challenges they will find there. Before starting construction, the architect and school officials spent about two years planning the building. Finally, they modeled it on layouts common in local businesses and many universities.

School officials could work with a catalog printing company to update the school catalog to include the new building. These Catalogs could then be made available to local high school career counselors.
