Improv workshop planned in Catonsville

If laughter is the best medicine, a Catonsville workshop is coming up that will allow participants to cure others.

The Baltimore County Art Guild is sponsoring “A Taste of Improv!,” with Michael Harris leading the exercises. The workshop is for anyone who has ever wanted to walk onto a stage and make people laugh, or alternatively, for those who are terrified of public speaking. Those taking part will enjoy learning the basics of improvisation: listen, agree, add new information, and then create a scene or character. This technique is a great help to those who are shy in public.

Michael Harris, an instructor at improv classes and workshops for more than 10 years, has worked with the Baltimore Improv Group (BIG), and also at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts (NCDA). He is in demand throughout the area, and has facilitated improv workshops for corporate clients including the World Bank and T. Rowe Price.

The workshop will use mostly short-form games similar to those on “Whose Line is it Anyway?” Students should expect to spend most of the class on their feet, and dress for comfort.

The workshop, which is free, will observe health protocols, and will be held December 2, starting at 7:00 pm, at the Baltimore County Arts Guild, Woman's Clubhouse, in Catonsville. Flyer printing can be used to create informative handouts for classes like this.
