Historic mansion holds opening ceremony

After a $6m restoration that took two years, the Hilton Mansion in Catonsville, now known as the Hilton Center, celebrated its new lease on life with a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The mansion was built from 1828 to 1835, which makes it almost as old as the city itself, and the college will be using it for several of its programs.

The reopening was hosted by the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). Anne Luco, the president of the Catonsville Historical Society, said she was delighted to see the school had restored and maintained a lot of the building's original architecture. The historical society and the college will work together to display an exhibit of artifacts relating to the city's history. These will rotate, and include paraphernalia from the police and fire departments, as well as milk bottles from when the land on which the building stands was a dairy farm.

The renovation created a dining room that has a warming and catering kitchen attached, as well as a number of conference rooms that are fully equipped with Wi-Fi and digital displays.

The college's Center for Global Education, as well as its Honors Program, will have space on the upper floors. Also available to honors students are a study area and classroom that has a kitchenette.
