Catonsville to host session on internships

A seminar to help people understand and create internships has been scheduled for Catonsville.

Internships are important in business, because they give students, or people just beginning their career, experience in their chosen field.

On the other end of the spectrum are the businesses that create internships. The upcoming Internship Bootcamp is designed to help organizations rethink their internships, or create them if they do not currently have one. Employers and educators from the area will be available to discuss internships for students from local universities and colleges. There is a huge pool of students in the area.

The bootcamp will cover how organizations can set up internship programs of their own, how to recruit students, and how to develop a “pipeline” that will continuously supply future employees. Topics also include best practices, and how to supervise and communicate with students.

Kirsten Brinlee, Baltimore Collegetown Network’s executive director, is the keynote speaker. A talk entitled “A Perspective from the Front Lines” will allow students to discuss their experiences with internships. After that, there will be a group session, during which attendees can meet with other employers to discuss their internship programs and purposes.

The program “Internship Bootcamp: Creating an Internship Program 2020” is scheduled for January 21, from 8:30am until 11:00am, at the UMBC Event Center, Retriever Room. The event is free, and a continental breakfast will be provided. Flyer printing can be used to create a schedule for events like this.
