Catonsville shop getting ready for special day

Comic book lovers have a treat coming, with Free Comic Book Day on the way to stores all over the country.

Catonsville's Cosmic Comix & Toys is looking forward to the event, which is the most important day in the year for lovers of comic Books, and the stores that sell them. Diamond Comic Distributors started the event in 2002, working with publishers of comic Books every year to make millions of comics available to local shops, who give them away. Diamond estimates that it will be supplying about 5.2 million comics to 2,200 local shops throughout the nation.

At Cosmic Comix, Andy Bridges, the general manager of the store, said it is the general atmosphere surrounding the event that has him excited. The day may be the highest-grossing day the store has all year. In addition to giving away comic Books, Cosmic Comix plans to have free popcorn, special sales, and more. Any customer who wants free comics has only to ask for them, Bridges said. The shop is preparing 1,000 Bags of comics in total, 500 to be given away to older patrons, and the other 500 aimed at young readers.

The event is set to take place from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm this Saturday, May 4. The shop is at 87 Mellor Avenue in Catonsville. Events like this are perfect places for organizers to use banner printing to create fun decorations.
