The Catonsville Chamber of Commerce recently partnered with the Knights of Columbus for the ‘Taste of 21228’ fundraiser, and succeeded in raising approximately $15,000 for flood victims.
In late May, Catonsville, Ellicott City, and Oella were faced with devastating flooding, when approximately 10 inches of rain pelted down in a two-hour period. The rain washed out roads, flooded basements, and took the life of a Maryland National Guardsman, Staff Sergeant Eddison Hermond Jr. Some Catonsville shops had their inventory destroyed, more than 400 basements had to be pumped out by county crews, and one house was cited as being unsafe for occupation, for a temporary period.
The Catonsville Chamber’s president, Joe Poisal, said the fundraiser drew over 150 people, and added it was endearing to see the way in which the community came together to help others. The people who took part, according to Poisal, were friends and neighbors, people who saw each other at community events, and former classmates, illustrating the tightly-knit nature of the city. The event featured food, drinks, and live music, most of it donated by local restaurants including Kelsey’s Restaurant, Edible Arrangements, Pat’s Porch, Duesenberg’s American Café and Grill, G.L. Shack’s, Farmhouse Greens, Scittino’s Italian Market Place, Black Kettle Restaurant, Franco’s Italian Bistro, Dimitri’s International Grille, and Catonsville Gourmet.
