A not-for-profit group that provides nutritional assistance to underprivileged youth in the Catonsville area will soon be teaching the public how to prepare focaccia bread right in their own kitchen.
Weekend Backpacks provides feeding programs to young people on weekends throughout the Baltimore area. It has teamed up with Baltimore’s Schola Cooking School to present an online cooking class that will introduce participants to the art and science of preparing focaccia bread. It will be offered using the Zoom platform, and is part of a fundraising food series developed by the host organization.
The virtual workshop will walk registrants through the process of baking and decorating this distinctive type of Italian bread, and the information shared may be helpful to almost anyone who wants to get started at bread making in their own kitchen. Kneading techniques will be taught, and there will also be recipes provided for creating dipping oils for the final product. Admission to the workshop is by a donation of $45, and the proceeds will be used to purchase food and other supplies for the youth meals.
Hosting workshops can benefit a not-for-profit group in several ways. They raise money while also building awareness about a cause, and a flyer printing company will be able to offer an assortment of ways to promote it to the local area.
This virtual baking class will be offered on Sunday, November 14, starting at 3:00 pm.
