Road crews have worked to relocate the ramp from the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) to Frederick Road (Maryland 144), and their efforts have paid off.
The ramp was scheduled to open April 27 , when a new traffic signal went into operation. Between that day at 7:00 pm and the following day at 5:00 pm, construction workers controlled traffic with flaggers, which allowed signal technicians to test the signal before putting it into service. In addition, the crews shifted traffic onto the new Frederick Road Bridge.
Authorities advised drivers to leave extra time for travel on those days. The new signal was slated to be in full operation by Monday, and the new double left-turn lanes for the I-695 ramp were opened as well. However, the new ramp between the Beltway and Frederick Road was not in service until the April 29.
Beginning at midnight April 29, highway officials shut down single lanes on the I-695 Inner Loop in order to prepare to open the relocated Frederick Road ramp. The ramp was moved nearer the bridge in order to improve traffic flow and safety.
Catonsville officials might consider working with a flyer printing company to devise a mailer for the community's residents that includes a map of the new intersection, and any work still to be done in future weeks.
