Those in Alpharetta who enjoy the arts will soon have a new place to engage in their passion.
In a decision made during its December 14 meeting, the city council voted to approve repurposing the former Alpharetta Library and making it an arts center. The plan is to offer classes, gallery spaces, guest speakers, a theater, and a variety of outreach programs, all under one roof.
The three-acre property is situated at 238 Canton Street and includes a 10,350 square foot main building, the surrounding grounds, and parking for 38 vehicles. Public input was sought in to how the facility should be used, and converting it to an arts center was determined to be the best idea.
It was noted that renovations will be needed to adapt the existing building to suit its new function, but the final price tag for this is not known, as it will depend on how much upgrading is needed. It is estimated that it could be between $750,000, and $1.2 million. Once a decision has been made about what improvements will be needed, a Print company will be able to produce “artist’s concept” drawings for the public so they can see what the final results should look like
It has not yet been decided exactly which programs will be offered, but they will be selected based upon input from citizens, as well as demand and need. Get a Free Quote for Print
