Alpharetta storm water system to receive upgrades and repairs

The City Council of Alpharetta has given the green light to a project that will repair its current storm water catchment system, and also extend its life by decades

The contracts, which come with a price tag of $700,000, will revitalize the existing infrastructure that carries excess storm water away from the city streets. According to the city, its current system has more than 10 miles of metal piping that has either reached or outlived its expected operational lifespan of 25 years. The upgrades could extend this by as much as 50 years.

The plan, which will take place over five years, will see 30 work orders completed that total 2,500 feet of the existing pipelines. The task will be split between three companies, these being Utility Asset Management Inc., PR Southeast, and Chase Plumbing and Mechanical Inc. Mailing services can be used to keep the public up to date on the progress of projects such as this, and also to let them know of any street closures or other disruptions that may occur while the work is being done.

In addition to this work, Georgia Earth and Pipe LLC has been awarded a $200,000 contract to repair storm drainage and structure repairs on an on-call basis. Over the next five years, catch basins, junction Boxes, grate inlets, and other parts of the system will be repaired and upgraded as needed.
