When selecting plants for a home landscape, using native species offers several advantages over introduced varieties. Pinellas Park property owners who would like to find out how they can easily incorporate them into their garden design may wish to make sure they reserve their seat in an upcoming horticultural workshop.
Steve Turnipseed, who holds the position of President with the Villages Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, will offer an introduction to the ways native species can be used in the home landscape. The workshop is free, and is scheduled to run for one and a half hours.
Plants that have adapted to a particular area tend to need less water and are resistant to the insects and disease found in an area. They are often also easy to grow and care for, and can be a viable alternative to a traditional turf lawn, which often needs lots of water and fertilizer to look its best. Turnipseed will led the class through an exploration of the species that will do well in the area and provide tips in plant selection and care.
This free workshop is open to all, and anyone who needs accommodations to participate has been asked to contact the organizer upon registration. Promotional Pens, Notepads, and other items can be distributed to each of the participants in an educational event like this.
The horticultural workshop takes place on January 31 at 1800 Weedon Drive NE in St.Petersburg.
