The Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida is due to break ground today (January 15) on a new healthcare facility in East Naples. Network officials say they have been working for years to bring a medical center to an area where residents' access to healthcare is limited.
The Nichols Community Health Center will stand near Collier and Green boulevards, near Golden Gate in East Naples. The total cost of the complex is estimated at $15m, of which the nonprofit has already raised $7m. Officials hope to raise the additional funds during the construction effort, and could work with a brochure printing company to devise Booklets explaining the project and how people can help.
The complex will be three stories tall, and will provide a complete array of dental, mental health, and medical services, with all the attendant support services required. Even a drive-through pharmacy is planned.
Mike Ellis, president and CEO of Health Network, said the complex could be called “program central,” since it will provide almost every outpatient care imaginable, from behavioral health, to dental care, to paediatrics, to women's care. The projected opening for the center is Spring 2020.
The new center is to be named for Jerry Nichols, an Ohio native who has lived in Naples for over 40 years, and whose substantial gift has enabled construction to begin. Nichols has supported Naples' veterans, children, and educational system for many years.
