Special event in Naples Zoo

The Naples Zoo has a special event planned for people of all ages, especially cat lovers.

The zoo is organizing a celebration of the wildlife in the local area, and the star of the show is Athena, a rescued Florida panther.

Athena was one of a litter of four kittens discovered in 2017 by biologists working in Big Cypress National Preserve. The scientists found the mother had moved the other three kittens, but left Athena behind. The kitten was only a few weeks old at the time. An attempt was made to reunite the family, but the effort was unsuccessful. Since panther kittens have to live with their mothers for approximately six months to made a successful transition to the wild, it was decided to give Athena a forever home at the zoo.

In addition to seeing Athena, guests can enjoy all the activities regularly scheduled at the zoo, including outdoor exhibits created by conservation partners from the area, plus activities designed especially for kids, and talks by experts about how to coexist with local wildlife.

The Naples Zoo's Florida Panther Festival, a family-friendly event, is scheduled for November 7, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Admission to the zoo is free for residents of Collier County, who will be asked to show proof of residence. Flyer printing can be used to provide informative handouts to attendees at this type of event.
