The Children’s Business Fair is a national event, being spearheaded in Naples by the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce. This is the first time the fair will be held in the city, but the Chamber hopes it will become a yearly happening.
Although the day will be fun for everyone, Chamber leaders have said the event is much more than this, and is a chance to connect with those who will be members of the workforce in future. According to the Leadership Collier Foundation’s vice president, Amanda Beights, it is hoped the day will connect students and schools to opportunities in the business community.
Typical of these young entrepreneurs are third graders Emerson Housewert and Evan Shephard. Students at Veterans Memorial Elementary School, they had to devise something last year to sell at their school’s Market Day. They decided to use what they already had at home—supplies for making soap.
They microwaved clear glycerin, then added colors and scents, even glitter, and poured the material into molds of various shapes. Their colorful soaps were a huge success, earning them 4,000 coins in Market Day currency. Organizers of events like this might go further and encourage participants to consider their own Logo Design.
The Children’s Business Fair is set for October 20, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, at the Gulf Coast High School on Shark Way in Naples.
