Naples Botanical Garden showcases Everglades photography

A new exhibit at the Naples Botanical Garden highlights the more artistic side of nature with an exhibition of the photography of Clyde Butcher.

Often compared to famous photographers like Ansel Adams, Butcher is an acclaimed landscape photographer best known for his black-and-white images of the Florida Everglades. Butcher uses large-format photography, creating images that are up to five by nine feet, which requires specialized cameras that can be up to a century old. He is also active in promoting conservation of the Everglades, and has appeared in several documentaries promoting wilderness conservation. Butcher has been recognized multiple times with awards from organizations ranging from Florida Magazine to the Sierra Club.

The exhibit is called “America’s Everglades: Through the Lens of Clyde Butcher” and includes numerous large works by Butcher that span three decades of his photographic career. It is included with general Garden admission and is accompanied by an audio tour. Art and photography exhibits are part of Naples Botanical Garden’s educational mission and programming, including regular talks and seminars. Events like this often use flyer printing and online outreach to catch the eye of the general public. Other programs include Citizen Science, encouraging hikers and other people in the outdoors to contribute to scientific research, and at-home gardening lessons.

“America’s Everglades” is currently on display at the Naples Botanical Gardens, and will run until June 15.
