In February, the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens will be hosting the event Spectral Vizcaya: an illuminated evening for any Miami history buffs interested in learning more about the historic estate.
The Vizcaya house and grounds were originally constructed in 1912 as the villa and estate of businessman James Deering, but they now function as an educational space for the public to connect with the past. The February event, Spectral Vizcaya, will be an interactive light show showcasing various scenes throughout the estate’s history.
Organizers of the event are partnering with local artist Sebastian Duncan-Portuondo to illuminate the Vizcaya estate through analog projection machines, holiday lights, and LEDs creatively situated around the grounds. Illuminations on the house and exterior spaces will visually tell the history of the estate through caricature sketches. As an interactive experience, guests will be part of the show and children are encouraged to carry lanterns as they traverse the grounds.
Spectral Vizcaya is scheduled for Friday, February 26, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under five receive free admission. Custom-made Spectral Vizcaya masks will also be available to purchase for $20. Organizers of such events often turn to businesses specializing in banner printing to help decorate and set the mood.
