Miami prints unemployment forms for pickup at libraries

In light of the coronavirus crisis, Miami-Dade is printing out thousands of paper Copies for unemployment applications at local libraries and distribution centers.

This is a response to Florida’s unemployment site being unavailable and call centers shutting down. Fortunately, more than half of the district’s libraries can now deliver unemployment benefits to laid-off workers. As of Wednesday, April 1st at 8:00 am, 26 libraries have been open in the county where those who lost their jobs had access to unemployment Forms.

Public libraries have drop-off stations for handing in completed Forms sealed into Envelopes. At the state unemployment office, county staff has agreed to deliver paperwork overnight to its main headquarters in Tallahassee. These Forms will be processed by CareerSource so that people can be compensated based on their hourly wage or yearly salary.

Another option is for people to Print their own unemployment applications and send them directly to a CareerSource office. This workaround attempt by Miami-Dade should support many in Miami who require financial assistance.

While the government ordered a shutdown of the economy, this organization is helping to address the systematic failure of social safety nets in times of crisis. This would remove the delays in state aid issued by Congress as well. It has ultimately become a matter of getting benefits to people on time.

In the upcoming months, people in Florida should be able to receive their unemployment benefits. Printing services can be a lifesaver when people need to fill out paperwork to apply for government assistance.
