For the 12th year in a row, the FIU Alumni Association is hosting its Annual FIU Scholarship Fishing Tournament in Miami.
With their participation, anglers will help generate money for the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. The event is sponsored by TotalBank.
For this one day, the offshore tournament focuses on dolphin fish (not to be confused with dolphins the mammals). Prizes, however, will also be awarded for the largest fun fish landed, including kingfish, tuna, and wahoo. The fishing lasts from 7:00 am, when fishing lines go in the water, until 3:00 pm when the lines come out. Fish will be weighed at 4:00 pm.
Tournament winners will receive their awards at the Dock Party, which starts at 2:00 pm and runs until 6:00 pm on the same day as the tournament. Student scholarships will be awarded at this time as well. The family friendly Dock Party is open to the public and includes live entertainment, food, beverages, games, and prizes - all for a nominal fee.
The Florida International University Scholarship Fishing Tournament has, since its inception in 2002, raised more than $100,000. Fundraisers such as this one benefit from using a poster printing service that not only provides advertisement for the event but also for the event's sponsor.
The fishing fun takes place at Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center in Miami, on Saturday, May 31.
