Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn are spouses as well as musical partners. Fleck is a recognized virtuoso known for taking the banjo from its beginnings in bluegrass music and played it in genres including world music, rock, classical, and jazz, introducing it to whole new audiences. He is most famous for his association with the Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, and the New Grass Revival. He has been nominated for 33 Grammys and won 15.
Singer/songwriter Washburn plays the clawhammer banjo and invited people to reconsider the potential of the instrument when she combined it with the sounds and culture of the Far East. She and Fleck first met at a dance, then started working together musically, and finally began a personal relationship. Over the course of their partnership, they have played together formally as part of the Sparrow Quartet with Casey Driessen and Ben Sollee, and have performed informally at benefits, parties, and supporting one another’s solo appearances.
A review of one of their appearances says:
“This concert may well have been the feel-good event of the year.”
The artists will appear at the Boettcher Concert Hall in Denver on February 3 and 4 at 7:30 pm. Audiences often want to know the background of performers they admire, which organizers of events like this can provide by using brochure printing to create programs.
