Colorado Springs named the nations most desirable place

The news magazine U.S. News & World Report recently ranked Colorado Springs as the ‘Most Desirable Place to Live’ in the United States.

No doubt something the city would like to highlight when the time comes for the next brochure printing order, the rankings are based on the results of a survey that asks residents where they would live if they had a choice among the 125 largest metropolitan areas in the country.

In a statement on the city's website, John Suthers, Colorado Springs' mayor, said the honor shows that the rest of the country is beginning to realize what residents know already—that the city is “a wonderful place to live.” He noted that Colorado Springs is included on a growing number of “best of” lists, which is a tribute to the progress being made in the community. He attributes this to the residents, who vote to invest in the infrastructure and the economy. Mayor Suthers went on to praise the city's system of parks, its schools, and its affordability.

Colorado Springs beat out other popular cities including Portland, Oregon, which came in at number two; Seattle, which was number five; Austin, Texas, which wound up as number six; and nearby Denver, which this year ranked at number ten. In taking first place, Colorado Springs dethroned Honolulu, which had been in first for two years in a row. This year, the Hawaiian capital has dropped to number four.
