Annual gala to celebrate scholarship program

For the 35th year, Colorado Springs will celebrate its Cinco de Mayo scholarship program with a gala celebration, according to an article in the Gazette.

El Cinco de Mayo Inc. is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that helps support education by awarding scholarships. It also promotes awareness of Latino and Hispanic culture. At this year's event, 13 students will receive $1,000 scholarships. Last year, the organization awarded a total of $17,000 to students. There will be more scholarships awarded later; people have until June 1, 2018 to nominate a student for the honor.

Among the performers at the gala will be Sierra Gold, as well as the Don Manuel Andrade Y E. Mariachi Perla Tropical, a mariachi group from Pueblo. The keynote speaker for the event is actor Jesse Borrego, known for his role as Jesse Velasquez on the television show ‘Fame’, and for the film ‘Blood In Blood Out’, in which he played Cruz Candelaria.

The ceremony, which includes the awards, a silent auction, dance, and dinner, will be held at the Doubletree by Hilton on East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard this Saturday, May 5. Registration begins at 5:00 pm, with the celebration starting at 6:00 pm.

Events like this can be even more colorful if organizers work with a banner printing company to create Banners to decorate the venue. Banners are sturdy and eye-catching, and can be used indoors and out.
