What's Happening in Simi Valley, CA…

Simi Valley session has it all sewn up

A workshop on basic Featherweight sewing machine maintenance is being hosted by Tim Brown, owner of Kingdom Sewing Machine Center in Simi Valley.

Brown purchased Kingdom during the 1980s when its main items sold were vacuum cleaners. However, he eventually started selling mostly sewing machines. He eventually sold the main store and opened a second store many years ago. Brown now dedicates his efforts to the Simi Valley store, where he sells machines and sewing furniture. He also offers classes and showcases his business through shows.

Brown’s interest in Singer Featherweight sewing machines started when an employee who worked on them, Dick Hodnefield, started teaching him about the machines. Brown also started collecting Featherweights as trade-ins and now has around 20. Brown is mainly interested in the ones created prior to the Second World War. Brochure printing is a great way for the event host to provide helpful information at events like this.

Brown completed a seminar for the Modern Quilt Guild around 10 years ago and still continues to do so. For the upcoming workshop, participants are required to bring Featherweights of their own to the class. The cost to attend the event is $40 and there is capacity for up to 18 attendees.

The event will be on Sunday, June 11 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. It will be located at the Kingdom Sewing & Vacuum Center, 1790 E Los Angeles Ave Unit D in Simi Valley.
