San Jose welcomes fun comedian/actor/YouTuber

A comedian/YouTuber, and actor who has incorporated an additional persona into his act is coming to San Jose.

Seattle native Adam Ray often appears in the persona of “Dr Phil,” which he has been performing since 2023, making a great impact on YouTube. After joining the platform, he has enjoyed more than 37 million views and has approximately 360,000 subscribers. His career includes voice work, and he has done advertisements for McDonald’s, Brooks Brothers, and more.

Ray has had great success with his development of his version of “Dr. Phil,” which he performs with prosthetics and full makeup. He bases his character on the real Dr. Phil McGraw, a clinical psychologist who hosts his own television program, which takes the format of an advice show.

Ray got his idea for “Dr. Phil” when he was playing such a character on a comedy show. The feedback was positive, so he decided to explore the idea further, devising a:

“. . . late-night version of a daytime guy.”

Ray began producing shows every month at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. The idea was to have Ray’s “Dr. Phil” interact with other comics, with the resulting interview uploaded to YouTube. Ray’s unique approach gained notice, and Dr. Phil liked it enough to endorse the Ray version of himself.

Ray will be at the San Jose Improve on December 4. Organizers who want to publicize shows like this may want to work with poster printing experts on the advertisements.
