A run that offers options for the entire family is coming up in San Jose.
Participants in the San Jose Shamrock Run can take their choice of a 5K, 10K, or a Kids’ Leprechaun Chase. This is the biggest St. Patrick’s Day race and helps to support the San José–Dublin Sister City Scholarship Program, which will receive 100% of the proceeds from the day.
In addition, participants will receive the kind of swag people can only acquire at events like this. The goodies include a commemorative medal and T-shirt and the chance to enjoy the O’Flaherty’s Post-Race Party, featuring live music and Irish dancers.
The 5K and 10K will both take place in downtown San Jose, and the courses are almost flat, with only about a 75-foot change in elevation. As with most such races, the runners cover the same course, with additional distance added for the 10K. The 5K and 10K start and finish at the Saint Pedro Square Market, as does the Kids’ Leprechaun Chase. The Chase is a half-mile, out-and-back course open to children 12 and under. Parents are welcome to join in. There is also a remote run option available.
The run is Saturday, March 16, and the event begins at 8.00 am. The Kids’ Leprechaun Chase follows at 10:15 am. When events such as this are planned, organizers will often work with banner printing companies to create course markers.
