Popera quartet coming to San Jose

A vocal group that has brought new listeners to the classics is coming to San Jose.

Simon Cowell, host of shows like “American Idol,” created the male vocal quartet Il Divo for Syco Music, a Sony subsidiary. The international singers who comprised the first lineup were French baritone, Sébastien Izambard; Urs Bühler, a tenor from Switzerland; American David Miller, a tenor; and Spanish baritone, Carlos Marin. In 2019 Marin died, and American Steven LaBrie, a baritone, replaced him.

Izambard is a pop singer, but all the others have a classical background. They began recording in 2004 with “Il Divo,” and have released eleven studio albums to date. “Il Divo” was a smash, reaching the No. 1 spot on the charts in four countries, and No. 4 in the U.S. Organizations in nine different countries rated it either Platinum or Gold.

Il Divo has won fans by combining classical music and opera with additional genres such as pop, bolero, church music, ballads, folk and Latin. They are truly a crossover group, appealing to fans of different types of music. They record in multiple languages as well.

Physically, they bring back glamor to the stage, wearing Armani. A review says:

“These guys know how to perform, sound amazing, personable and always friendly with the audience.”

Il Divo will be at the San Jose Civic on July 9. When concerts like this are scheduled, organizers will often use poster printing to create advertising for them.
