Canadian songwriter and vocalist coming to San Jose

A songwriter and singer is on his way to San Jose from Saskatchewan.

Colter Wall, whose career goes back to high school, is known for his storytelling style. He says his music was inspired by the Canadian plains, where he might not see another person for days. Referring to the prairies as the “big empty,” he adds they must be filled with songs.

He began his professional recording career in 2015 with “Imaginary Appalachia,” an EP, and followed that with 2017’s “Colter Wall,” his inaugural album. Other albums followed: 2018’s “Song of the Plains”; “Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs,” released in 2020; and his latest, 2023’s “Little Songs.”

His composition skills brought him to Hollywood’s attention. His music has been heard on television in “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” and on the big screen in the films “Hell or High Water” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

He says that his earliest influences were rock legends like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, but later he examined folk music and the Blues more closely, which led to him developing his current approach. A review says:

“This isn’t a show with pyrotechnics, mood lighting or lots of special guests. It is however, a great showcase of Colter’s voice and what great music a bunch of friends can play . . .”

Colter Wall will be at the San Jose Civic on January 14. When they plan events like this, organizers often use poster printing to create advertising for them.
