Next month, AFGE (American Federation of Government Employees) and Benefit Architects will host the AFGE Retirement Workshop to help employees in the Torrance and Redondo Beach area navigate their benefits.
Representing over 700,000 federal employees, the AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the United States. Benefit Architects has been helping government workers understand their employer and personal benefits for over 30 years. Together, these two organizations have set up the retirement workshop to help workers properly prepare for retirement.
Retirement experts from Benefit Architects will go over the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pensions and what they entail. Retirement eligibility will be discussed, as well as what workers can expect as far as net retirement income after deductions are made. Questions about temporary leave, sick leave, and military leave will also be discussed. The class will also go over the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program, Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), and the Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program.
The retirement workshop is slated for September 5 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the DoubleTree Torrance on 21333 Hawthorne Boulevard, just minutes from Redondo Beach. The workshop is free to attend.
