The Newport Beach City Council has approved an extension of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian's development agreement for a period of 10 years, in what was a unanimous vote.
The agreement will allow the hospital to develop facilities at its site as it sees fit. Flyer printing is sometimes used in situations like this to provide information to the community.
Hoag sits on 38 acres bounded by Superior Avenue, Newport Boulevard, West Coast Highway, and Hospital Road. The facility was built in 1952, offering 75 beds in 50,000 square feet. The complex has been upgraded several times, each time remodeling and expanding. There are still 455,000 square feet the hospital could develop, as long as it uses the site for medical and office purposes, and the development remains aligned with Newport Beach's General Plan, and the hospital's PC text. It will also have to comply with all mitigation standards.
Hoag is committed to giving $3m to the community, in payments of $300,000 yearly for 10 years. The hospital will make the payments to one of the nonprofits recommended to the city by the Homeless Task Force, which was recently formed. These payments will help address the problem of homelessness and provide continuing funds for the Community Benefit Program, which is part of the Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living.
