The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges will convene educators in Newport Beach this October.
The event will feature a two-day academy examining climate justice, sustainability and equitable approaches to environmental action. The program is designed to help faculty incorporate climate-related concepts into teaching, student services, institutional planning and community engagement.
Sessions will examine the “Just Transition” framework, which connects environmental sustainability with social and economic equity. Participants will explore how climate policies can affect underserved communities and consider ways community colleges can involve students in local and statewide environmental initiatives.
Programming will include collaborative workshops, facilitated discussions and breakout sessions addressing curriculum development, environmental equity, leadership, community building and workforce preparation. Attendees will also develop climate-action plans tailored to their academic disciplines, service responsibilities or institutions.
In-person registration costs $495. Presenters must also register, although their admission is handled through organizer-issued promotional codes rather than a publicly listed rate. A conference hotel rate of $191 per night is available to registered attendees through October 1st. Parking for overnight guests using the room block costs $20 daily. Other self-parking rates begin at $12 for the first hour, while valet service costs $25 per day.
Organizers of educational conferences often use brochure printing to provide guests with schedules, session information and lists of participating organizations.
The academy will take place Friday, October 23rd, through Saturday, Oct. 24th, beginning at 9 am at Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, 1107 Jamboree Road, Newport Beach, California.
