The City of Newport Beach has put out a call for entries to those who would like to participate in the Invitational Sculpture Exhibition.
Non-profit institutions, museums, art galleries, private collectors, and individual artists are welcome to submit their works, or works in their collections, for consideration as part of a temporary display in Civic Center Park.
As many as 10 artworks could be chosen and displayed prominently in Civic Center Park for a period of two years. The park is in downtown Newport Beach, and covers 14 acres, giving visitors serene surroundings as well as a view of the Pacific Ocean. The park was designed by Peter Walker, a well-known landscape architect, and was intended to be a sculpture garden. The design of the site means that artists whose works are chosen will have a great opportunity to have their sculptures displayed for an extended period of time. Moreover, Newport Beach is famous for its artists and art collectors, who will appreciate the exhibits.
The park has also become a destination for both residents and visitors, who come to enjoy concerts in the summer, docent-led tours of the sculpture park, art shows, walks along the park's trail, even visits to the dog park.
The deadline for submitting artwork is March 4. Organizers of events like this could consider using poster printing to create Posters announcing the contest and placing them in local arts venues.
