An activity usually reserved for youngsters has been reimagined and will take place in Newport Beach.
Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt has combined two popular games – scavenger hunts (usually considered a children’s game) and murder mysteries – into an adult event. Participants will investigate and explore the city at the same time.
Each team receives riddles, a package of clues, and difficult puzzles. The clues lead players to locations such as Peninsula Park, The Balboa Pier, The Fun Zone, and Balboa Village, even on a ferry ride to and from Balboa Island. Each location will add more information to the investigation until the team can identify the murderer.
As many as ten teams may be playing at the same time, scattered around the city. The team that identifies the criminal, their motive, and their location the quickest, and solves the puzzle with the least help from “headquarters,” is the winner. Activities like this act as morale builders and make great Corporate Gifts.
The game typically lasts approximately four hours, involving about three miles of walking. Company officials do not make up the teams, so they must sign up together. It is suggested players bring sunscreen, snacks, water, and wear comfortable shoes. Players of all ages are welcome, but those under 12 may find the event too difficult. Anyone under 18 must have a release signed by a guardian or parent.
The hunt is set for June 11, from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm, at Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt at 801 E. Balboa Boulevard.
