Morgan Hill, Gilroy and South County will be hosting the 17th Annual Second Chance Week, an event designed to encourage people to recycle more often.
This week dedicated to recycling will go on from 7th September till the 15th. The event will kick off with Gilroy’s Citywide Garage Sale on the opening weekend, followed by a whole week of events that will show people how to give their old stuff a ‘second chance.’ The event will end with a Citywide Garage Sale in Morgan Hill/South County on the final weekend.
The goal of this event is to get more stuff back into useful circulation rather than just sending it to a land-fill. Reuse, resale and repair are popular themes at all of the Second Chance Week’s events. This year’s main events include:
- The Community-Wide Garage Sales,
- Universal Waste Awareness Day,
- Freecycle Day,
- Bicycle Recycling Day.
People who wish to participate in the Garage Sale must apply by 30th August in Gilroy and September 6th in Morgan Hill. Hopefuls can register online or look for the application form in their utility bills for August. A complete list of all the participating addresses will be made available the day before the Garage Sales in each area.
Participating houses may visit Print shops to get banner printing done for the Garage Sale. The Signs can only be placed on private property and must be removed once the Garage Sale is over.
