New hospital suggested for Morgan Hill

A brand new hospital and critical care center are being considered for Morgan Hill, and Kaiser Permanente is also thinking about starting a medical office here.

The news about these proposals broke at this month’s meeting for Choose Morgan Hill Speaker Series at the Granada Theatre. Cecily Murray from the Camino Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic was happy to hear the announcement, because the clinic is running out of room.

According to the proposal, a piece of land close to the clinic is one location where the new 55-bed hospital could be put up. The new development will also come with space for a medical office building, retail space, and a critical care center. Brochure printing could be used to keep the public updated on the project’s proposed design.

The project is named Lillian Commons. The Morgan Hill Planning Commission plans to perform a review of the project soon. Edith Ramirez, the city’s Economic Development Director, described the outlook as “pretty promising.”

The county of Santa Clara will also be working on increasing the capacity of its current facilities. De Paul Health Center in Morgan Hill will see its center for urgent care expanded into what used to be the emergency room. A large portion of the hospital was closed in 1999, and officials widely believe that it is too far gone to be of any use.
