A BioBlitz is planned to help naturalists in the area see how many species of birds, insects, and animals currently call the area around Morgan Hill’s Coyote Creek home.
The family-friendly event needs volunteers to help the co-hosts of Coyote Creek Beautiful, Santa Clara County Parks, and Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society make an accurate count. The event is sponsored by Open Space Authority and Santa Clara County Parks.
Volunteers will receive a lesson on the iNaturalist app, where they will record every living creature they discover during the search. A count on all insects, reptiles, and mammals - as well as any plants, fungi and other living creatures – is needed. Volunteers can also help to collect litter around the creek if they prefer not to count.
Schools and other organization are welcome to do some flyer printing to spread the word and gather a group to register for the event. Volunteers can register as individuals, families, or other groups, or join an established group. Registration is free for everyone.
The BioBlitz will take place at Coyote Creek at 19245 Malaguerra Ave in Morgan Hill on March 17 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes and bring a smartphone if they want to count. The event will be canceled in the event of heavy rain only.
