Morgan Hill student event to help job seekers

Rock the Mock is an annual gathering that prepares students for their first job interviews and more.

Most people feel a little nervous when they enter a job interview, but for teenagers that have never experience the situation, it can seem overwhelming. The Rock the Mock event helps to dispel the mystery of the application process and what happens in a typical job interview.

The organizers pair teens that attend the event with local businesspeople. The adults discuss the process of hiring with the teens, explain what will occur once they enter the interview process and much more. The students learn how to dress, shake hands properly and to answer the questions from the interviewer with confidence and clarity. Pretend interview sessions put the students in the position of walking through a full interview to enable the local business professional to critique their performance and offer advice.

The workshop is beneficial for students that plan to look for work at once or wait until after their college graduation. The interview skills can also help those that will meet with college recruiters and those trying to secure internships. Students will also learn about the importance of resumes, Business Cards and more.

The Rock the Mock at Sobrato High School is January 24th from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Ann Sobrato High School is at 401 Burnette Avenue in Morgan Hill. All local students can attend the event for free but should register at the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce website.
