The 16th annual Second Chance Week is a community-wide event dedicated to recycling and repurposing.
A citywide garage sale kicks off the week as people bring out their unwanted property with the hope of finding new owners. After the opening weekend, each day of the week has a specific theme.
Monday is Universal Waste Awareness Day to help encourage sensible disposal of e-waste. Tuesday is about donating unwanted items directly to others seeking that same item, a process known as “freecycling”. On Wednesday, the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center will accept coat donations and people can drop off used eyeglasses on Thursday. Friday the city collects gently used bicycles to redistribute to local charitable groups. The event winds down with another large garage sale in neighboring Gilroy over the final weekend.
The cities of Morgan Hill and Gilroy have worked together to sponsor this event. Residents of both cities must pre-register to hold a garage sale and will need to sign up for other activities to participate. Contact (408) 310-4169 or visit the website for more information before hitting the Print shops, because special restrictions apply for displaying any garage sale Signs.
The event runs from September 8th through September 16th. The organizers encourage all residents of Morgan Hill and Gilroy to get involved and do their part to reduce waste in the community.
