The Morgan Hill Historical Society has announced the Fourth Annual Speakeasy: Prohibition Party.
During the era of prohibition, people quenched their thirst and their need for entertainment at hidden speakeasy clubs. The Morgan Hill Historical Society makes it possible to appreciate the music and fun the guests at these clubs experienced. The annual fundraiser promises to give modern partygoers everything that would have been available at that time without the risk of becoming labeled as a lawbreaker.
The event will include live era-appropriate music from recording artist Janet Klein & Her Parlour Boys, and guests can learn to do dance steps from the era thanks to the students and owners of the Arthur Murray Dance School. The party will also include Prohibition Era cocktails, food, and cards. Raffles for a bathtub full of wine and spirits and a pearl necklace will also take place.
Guests will want to do some poster printing after the party because guests can dress in Roaring Twenties garb, and all guests get a complimentary portrait of themselves with an era-appropriate antique car. The event will take place at the Hiram Morgan Hill House. The original owner, Hiram Morgan Hill, built the mansion in 1884. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
The party is this Saturday, June 23, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The Hiram Hill House is found at 17860 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill. Tickets are $79 per person and include all food, entertainment and a portrait with the restored vehicle. Only adults over 21 can attend and admittance is with ID only.
